Doctors recommend that conservative treatments be used for at least 3 months to see if that is all that is needed to reduce back pain. If after 3 months time you still have pain, weakness or numbness your doctor can then review the types of treatment that you used and either advise you on more aggressive treatments or possibly surgery.
